Right now the North Branch Vikings are sitting at 8-10 on the season. They have been very streaky thus far as they were without top scorer for some time, and they also went on a five game winning stretch. North Branch has recently dropped three games in a row but the Vikings have always played tough.
Chambers is leading the team with 14 points a game but his team dropped four of six when he was sitting out with injury. "I was out three weeks in December with an emergency appendectomy," explained the senior guard. "I am just now getting to the point that I have my strength and endurance back on the floor."
The Vikings are starting to come together now that Chambers is healthy. "Our season is at 8-10," Jake explained. "We are coming off of a close game against Benilde-St. Margaret's where we lost by six. I think we can put something together and make a run." Chambers is a modest young man who did not mention that in that 80-74 loss to the number one ranked Red Knights, he scored his season high total of 28 points.
Despite the fact that North Branch is under .500 they still feel very much in the hunt for state. The top record amongst teams in their section 3AAA is the 9-7 mark held by Fridley. Six of the eight teams in the section are hovering right around the .500 mark and that also includes Spring Lake Park, Minneapolis Henry, Columbia Heights, and St. Anthony. "My goal is to get to state and compete," Chambers stated. "It only takes three games to get there."
With an average of 14.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists Chambers has collected a lot of local college attention. "Jamestown, Morningside, Wafdorf, UW-Stout, and University of Wisconsin-Superior are teams that have shown interest in me," Jake explained. "I have not made a decision on where I plan to go to college yet."
