Bloomington Jefferson is two games into their season as they have defeated St. Paul Harding and lost a three-point game to a nice Lakeville North squad.
The loss of Cole Aldrich and other seniors has been felt and will be felt for awhile. You do not lose a McDonald's All-American center that took you to the state tournament and then recover instantly. But the Jaguars are still a talented group led by 6-foot-5 senior guard , 6-foot-2 junior guard Ellis Libby, and 6-foot-5 junior forward Moses Alipate.
After two games Barmore has been a model of consistency and that status is likely to maintain throughout the winter. He has led his team with 21 points and 17 points in those contests while taking care of numerous duties on the floor.
Aaron is a versatile talent who is very skilled with the ball in his hands. At 6-foot-5 Aaron can handle the ball coming up the floor as well as penetrate past smaller defenders. He's a very good mid-range shooter and his passing ability ranks amongst the best in the Lake Conference.
With several seniors moving on, the Jefferson coaching staff has been busy training in the new players to the line-up. "Practice this year has been going very smoothly so far," Aaron explained. "We have a lot of young guys with limited experience so we have spent more time on our offensive and defensive principles. I feel good with the group of guys we have, we are going to be a little undersized but we make up for it in our hustle and determination."
This past summer Barmore played with the Minnesota Magic Stars coached by <b>Mike Leuer</b> and this group did very well for itself. Barmore was a key role player on that team and the experience has helped him on the way to becoming a college basketball player.
Aaron is projected as a potential division two player or a high level division three talent. "Well as far as next year goes, I have not made any decisions yet on where I will be playing," Barmore explained. "I have talked to most of the MIAC schools, some schools in Iowa, and some in Wisconsin. I am still in the process of making my decision."
Before he walks on to a college campus next fall Barmore has things to accomplish at home with his Jefferson squad his senior year of play. "My goals for this season are to repeat as conference champs, repeat as section champs, and then go onto state and win some games in the tournament. We had a great run last year, and we believe that we are able to have the same experience this year.
"Losing Cole is a huge loss to our team, but we are working on adjusting our game plan," Barmore continued. "We are really going to have be a better rebounding team this year because we do not have the big guy in the middle to grab every rebound for us. We are going to try and use our quickness and athleticism to get out and run on teams. I believe we have enough talent on the perimeter and some big bodies down low that we will be able to make the adjustment just fine."
You can catch Barmore and Jefferson this week at home against Edina this Tuesday or against rival Bloomington Kennedy on Friday night. You will not see them at a holiday tournament as this team is again using the winter vacation as just that, a vacation. They will be off for two weeks until matching up with Lakeville South on the 4th. |
